Kanatan Aski is name of the musical group founded by Marcos Arcentales in 1992 on the eve of the 500 anniversary of the European influence on the Indigenous peoples of the Americas. The band was named by First Nations Playwright Floyd Favel (Cree Nation) meaning “clean land”
Marcos is an musician, artist, craft maker and business owner. As a musician and craft maker he mounts workshops throughout the country on building native instruments.
As a musician and composer he is working on the Indigenous World Music Sound Project is a natural segue of the ideas and concepts that began with Kanatan Aski. It tells the story of the Andean, Aboriginal, Inuit, Latino and Canadian peoples whose musical influences are separated by geography but not by musical time.
He also owns Tierra Sol Crafts a family run business for the last twenty years has built a network of indigenous craftspeople throughout the Americas bringing the best in Ecuador, Perú, Bolivia and Columbia. Marcos a talented graphic artist and instrumentalist began to design and make indigenous musical instruments, along with jewelry and leather goods. He utilized his entrepreneurial “grass roots” promotion knowledge and began to sell his work at various craft fairs throughout North, Latin and South America. Working directly with Native Artisan families which is a Fair Trade family run business working with Native and Indigenous Peoples
